ACYE - Inspiring Young Leaders 2010 Supported by Sparkplugs & The Bristol partnership

African and Caribbean Young Enterprise (ACYE) hosted a high-profile event to inspire young leaders from African and Caribbean backgrounds which took place on May 6th 2010 at Bristol’s Pierian Centre in Portland Square, St Paul’s.

The groundbreaking event ‘Inspiring Young Leaders 2010’ was hosted by students from University of the West of England, and featured a selection of distinguished speakers including Mrs. Peaches Golding, OBE. the country's first-ever female black High Sheriff the event, Formerly Deputy Campaign Director of Race for Opportunity and later Regional Director of Business in the Community (South West).

Supporting the event, ‘Inspiring Young Leaders 2010’, Peaches Golding said:

“The level of creativity and innovation is as high in black communities as in others. The challenge within our black communities is to translate those talents
into commercially excellent opportunities.”

Other guest speakers included accomplished entrepreneur Piers Linney, joint CEO of Outsourcery, a leading UK mobile communications company and former lawyer, investment banker and Government REACH role model for young black men.

The success Piers has achieved as an entrepreneur was recognised in the Power List 2010, which is sponsored by JP Morgan and Thomson Reuters and identifies him as one of the most influential black people in Britain today.

Piers said:

“I never met a professional with African-Caribbean heritage in
the City and have encountered very few black business people with
institutional financial backing, yet young African and Caribbean
entrepreneurs have an enormous contribution to make in business”.



Other guest speakers include young entrepreneur Andre Campbell, who at just 21 founded his first start up, Enfuse Youth, a youth led consultancy that aims to improve the lives of young people.

Andre said:

“ACYE is an organisation which is making a real impact and difference in the
lives of young people. I would recommend anyone looking to invest in our
future to get involved in this powerful initiative.”

The event was well attended by over 50 young people, all of whom gratefully offered their sincere thanks and appreciation for delivering such an impressive line up of inspiring speakers, and interesting mix of ambitious young people from the surrounding community.

The event was a great successful in it’s objectives of inspiring and empowering young leaders by providing successful role models from the African & Caribbean Community who provided knowledge and wisdom of their vast experiences to share with the aspiring young entrepreneurs.

ACYE Founders, Karl Belizaire and Carol Quaye said:
